The Full Story
Founded in 2020 by Nina Kanter during her time teaching at KM Music Conservatory, the Art Song Festival was born our of the desire to give a platform to Indian singer-pianist duos and composers, based around Western art song. The 2021 festival, delivered virtually, reached over 200,000 views worldwide across all outputs.
As far as we are aware, this is the first festival in India dedicated solely to Western classical art song, and with a remit of supporting Indian composers through training opportunities and performance of their new songs, as well as developing performance duos through masterclasses and performance opportunities.
Through the festival's work, we would like to create a new body of songs by Indian composers which can be performed throughout the world. We are proud to have already recorded six new songs submitted for the 2021 festival at Trinity Laban's studio in London, including songs in Tamil and Urdu.
We hope the festival will continue to grow through future collaborations with Indian and UK cultural partners, and we intend to tour it to different cities so that we can reach new audiences.
